Question 53: So Much Pirozhki~! by Ask-Soviet-Russia Question 53: So Much Pirozhki~! by Ask-Soviet-Russia
He he, I suppose they have seen stranger things in past, da~? ^ J ^

Little Boy: "Dada~! Wat coming out of dat man's house~?"

Father: "....Let's go back inside, Pete. We'll play some board games for the rest of the day."

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

(Who here would like to be Ivan's neighbor, just out of curiosity? XD

Also, it would be much appreciated if a kind person would tell me if piroshky/pirozhky/pirozhki (gosh darn too many ways to spell this...) is spelled right or not...I've been wrong in the past, so I'm trying to not make the same mistake, if I can help it~ ^ ^")

Oh~! Мои извинения~! *chuckles at Japan's expression, finding amusement in his reaction rather than guilt.* I keep forgetting how small and easy to push you are~! Perhaps I shall pat you on head instead~? *Ivan lightly pets the top of Japan's head, his expression that of a playful child as he continued to grin in friendly manner* ^ J ^

*frowns at the reference to his small size* My size does not affect my spirit and power. *blushes softly at the petting, trying to push Ivan's hand away* A-and please don't do that.

Aww, but Japan's hair is fun to pet, da~! ^ J ^ *though unwilling to, Ivan complies with Kiku's request. A mischievous grin suddenly appears, as he raises both arms as if about to embrace the shorter Japanese* If you do not like pat on back or head, then surely you would like hug from Mother Russia, Япония~!

(Ivan, you know VERY well Japan doesn't like hugs! Stop teasing him~ :iconumadsovietrussiaplz:)

*grinning widely at Japan's expression, Ivan chuckles before continuing* He he~! From expression, I can see you are thinking, "Da~! I would love hug from Mother Russia~!" Then here - *proceeds to wrap his arms around the smaller island nation, and lift him up into the air with his version of a 'hug'* you go, da~! ^ J ^

(He's having way too much fun with this~ X3)

I would be his neighbour gladly!

I think it's spelled "pirozhki" because of the letter ж instead of ш. I'm not that sure with the "y" or "i" in the end of the word, though.

(Same here~! ^ ^ Sounds like it would be fun!

And thank you very much~! : D Where I live, I keep seeing it spelled as "piroshky" in various places, but I wasn't sure if that was the correct way or not~ ^ ^")

That's the problem with transliterations of Russian, nobody ever reaches an agreement when it comes to how some letters/sounds should be transliterated. Every language makes transliterations adapting the sounds to what it's easier for them to pronounce (I've seen lots of differences between Russian words written in English, Spanish and Italian, for example). I wouldn't say there's a "correct" way of writing it, just a closer way to the original sound.
As a linguist, it drives me nuts.

(Oooh, it makes a lot sense when you explain it in that way...Good grief, I can see how it would become so frustrating then! :Y)

Yes! The ideal would be to use the Cyrillic alphabet, but not many people are willing to learn it... ^^;

(I will try to learn Cyrillic sometime, the only issue is that I am notoriously bad at learning languages, it's unfortunately one of my weaknesses. ^ ^" I did peek through a book that taught Cyrillic recently though, and it doesn't look as hard as I previously made it out to be. It's too bad the college I'm going to doesn't teach Russian though, I would have loved to take that class~

I think in the future, I'll just use the Cyrillic alphabet for pirozhki, it seems a lot less confusing that way~ XD)

Don't worry! The estimated time to learn Cyrillic is 1 hour. In fact, I learnt it completely in little more than an hour. It's easier than other alphabets and once you've learnt it you find out you can easily understand Russian words that come from English. It's really practical!

I'd love to learn Russian at college, too. Sadly, there's nowhere near here where I can learn it, so I try to learn by myself.

The problem with using Cyrillic is that other people can't read it xD
